The auctioneers of the IAA have done a great deal to help lead the industry and their support of my candidacy is gratifying.

As we all pack and prepare for our journey to Kansas City I would ask everyone to think of how we, as individual auctioneers, can impact our industry in positive ways. From the minor to the profound, there are ways each of us can strengthen the industry, which gives us our livelihood. I look forward to seeing everyone in Kansas City. “

Branding is one of the most important aspects of running a business. If the NAA wants to become the industry liaison between the media and the auctioneering society, we must improve public awareness of who we are and what our mission is. Now more than ever, we have to establish ourselves as strong, up to date, vibrant, and applicable to what is happening in the auctioneering method of the marketing world. While we want to strongly represent the auctioneering community to the media, we also want to teach our constituents how to use the media to their benefit. In turn, this creates a greater knowledge of the industry, and better establishes the NAA as the nucleus of the auctioneering world.

Contributing factors, such as the economy, have been the catalyst for bringing the NAA into this unique position. The media is increasingly approaching the association for information. This past year, the NAA purchased the web-based public relations software suite, VOCUS, to assist us in strategic marketing to the media. This software helps us manage local and global relationships and communications with journalists, analysts, public officials, and other important audiences. This tool will help to play a key role in branding the NAA and bringing our association into the spotlight.

Do you support a smaller board and why?

Board size plays a key role in the ongoing success of any organization. When too large, a board can become cumbersome and less productive. I feel our board is too large and should be reduced by three members. I would also like to see our board term increased to four years instead of three. During the first year, many board members are busy understanding the issues and the history behind those issues brought before them. During the second year, activity is increased due to knowledge. The third year allows the board member to truly become an asset to the membership. By adding a fourth year to the board member’s term, we will be adding strength, effectiveness, and stability to the organization; thus, enabling the board to better serve its members.

This endorsement is an incredible boost to me and my campaign,” said King. “Thank you to the board and the auctioneers across the great state of Georgia that are supporting me and my campaign.  The NAA is about people, about their professional growth and development and about the fellowship we all enjoy. NAA Budget

My budgetary philosophy is really quite simple.  First and foremost, an organization cannot expend more revenue than it generates!  Over the past 12 months, the NAA’s Executive Committee, Board, and staff have examined every expense; thus enabling us to work much leaner than in years past.  We must continue to examine and evaluate the benefits of all services offered to the NAA membership. In addition, we must consider other revenue streams, which will help to avoid increasing membership dues, as well as, provide an affordable Conference and Show program.  We must become more innovative in generating fresh revenue and stop creating a burden of the programs, which are already in place.

Secondly, in order to manage a budget, the officers of the association must have a working knowledge of the expenditures and revenue.  I commend the recent presidents for their hands on approach to the financial matters of the NAA.  Bringing CEO, Hannes Combest on board has helped the officers and directors examine each detailed aspect of our operations.  My desire is for the NAA to continue in this direction, while also getting back to the basics of our association.

Third, we need to build up operating reserves.  While I do not support the association being financially “fat,” I do think it wise to have six months in reserved operating expenses.   Finally, there should be no secrets within our association.  I want to continue the transparent-open book policy recently implemented by President Wells.
